Lithium Hydroxide

Molecular Formula: LiOH.H2O                                                                    Molecular Weight: 41.96

CAS No.:1310-66-3                                                                                                  EINECS No.:215-183-4

Properties: White fine monoclinic crystals or tetragonal crystalline powder with a pungent odor. Density is 1.46–1.51 g/cm³ (20°C); bulk density (industrial grade): 2.41, Melting point: 450–471°C (industrial grade), 462°C (decomposition point). Boiling point: 920–925°C, freely soluble in water (109 g/L at 20°C); Slightly soluble in ethanol, ether, and other organic solvents. Strong alkalinity: Aqueous solution pH >14; highly corrosive to skin and metals (e.g., aluminum). Contact releases intense heat and causes burns. Deliquescence & Degradation: Rapidly absorbs CO₂ and moisture in air, converting to lithium carbonate (Li₂CO₃); Loses crystalline water above 600°C; fully decomposes to Li₂O above 1000°C.

Application:

1. Battery Industry

Lithium-ion batteries: Production of cathode materials (e.g., NCM/NCA ternary materials). Purity ≥99.0% with strict control of impurities (e.g., Fe ≤0.0007%).

Alkaline batteries: Electrolyte additive for NiMH/NiCd batteries to enhance conductivity and cycle life.

2. Grease & Chemical Raw Materials

Lithium-based greases: Thickening agent providing high-temperature stability and water resistance.

Lithium compound synthesis: Production of Li₂CO₃, LiF, etc., for ceramics, glass, and nuclear industries.

3. Industrial Auxiliary Applications

Gas purification: Absorption of acidic gases (CO₂/H₂S) in confined spaces or environmental projects.

Metallurgy & electroplating: Aluminum smelting flux; metal surface degreasing.

Photography & pharmaceuticals: Developer; catalyst for drug synthesis (e.g., long-acting sulfonamides).

4. Emerging Fields

Energy-saving construction: Rapid-setting additive for leak-stopping agents and foamed cement to accelerate curing.

Petroleum industry: Enhances drilling fluid stability and reduces corrosion

Packaging&Storage: 25kg PP PE bags, store in a cool, dry place (temperature ≤30°C, humidity ≤80%) away from light and CO₂.

Incompatible materials: Strictly isolate from acids, aluminum products, and damp substances to prevent exothermic reactions or explosions.

Safety & Handling

Hazard classification: GHS Category C (Corrosive); UN Transport No. 2680 (Class 8 hazardous material, Packaging Group II).
Protection requirements: Operate with corrosion-resistant gloves, goggles, and ventilation; Rinse immediately with copious water for ≥15 minutes after contact

Technical Specifications: Executive Standard: GB/T 26008-2020
