Properties: White granular, odorless, density: 2.428–2.43 g/cm³ (25°C), melting point: 891°C, boiling point: ~1320°C. Highly soluble in water (1120 g/L at 20°C); Insoluble in ethanol, ether, and acetone. It is extremelyhygroscopic; Alkalinity: Aqueous solution is strongly alkaline.

Application:

1. Glass Industry: Raw material for optical glass and CRT glass bulbs, enhancing transparency, strength, and refractive index.

2. Chemical Production: Synthesis of potassium salts (e.g., potassium permanganate, potassium cyanide); Soap and dye manufacturing (vat dye printing); Preparation of dry-powder fire extinguishers (mixed with soda ash).

3. Textile Dyeing: Scouring of cotton fabrics, wool degreasing, and ice dye discharge processes.

4. Food Additive: Leavening agent (bakery products, beverages) and acidity regulator (GB 2760 approved); Inhibits noodle acidification and improves dough structure.

5. Daily Chemicals: Production of potassium soap, shampoos, and cold creams.

6. Emerging & Specialized Fields: Electronics: CRT manufacturing, anti-arc breaking agents for welding rods;

7. Environmental & Energy: Gas purification (CO₂/H₂S absorption), fertilizer decarbonization, and potassium fertilizer raw material;

8. Photography & Pharmaceuticals: Photographic film processing; synthesis of drugs (e.g., progesterone, long-acting sulfonamides).
