Disodium Phosphate

Molecular Formula: Na2HPO4.12H2O                                                                                     Molecular Weight:358.14

CAS No.:10039-32-4 or 7558-79-4                                                                  EINECS NO.:600-088-6

Properties: Colorless to white crystals. Relative density 1.52 g/cm³; melting point 34–35°C (melts and loses 5 molecules of water of crystallization at 35.1°C). Readily soluble in water (solubility: 218 g/L at 20°C); 1% aqueous solution exhibits weak alkalinity (pH 8.8–9.2). Insoluble in ethanol. Thermal Decomposition: Loses all water of crystallization at 100°C → forms anhydrous disodium hydrogen phosphate (Na₂HPO₄).Decomposes into sodium pyrophosphate (Na₄P₂O7) at 250°C.

Application:

1.Water Treatment: Acts as a boiler water softener – chelates calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions to prevent scale formation, protect metal pipelines, and reduce system corrosion.

2.Flame Retardant: Used in fireproofing treatments for textiles, wood, and paper (leveraging endothermic dehydration at high temperatures).

3.Chemical Raw Material: Synthesizes condensed phosphates (e.g., sodium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate).Serves as a hydrogen peroxide bleaching stabilizer and mordant in the dyeing industry.

4. Metal Processing: Functions as an electroplating bath buffer to enhance coating corrosion resistance.

5.Agricultural Fertilizer: Supplies phosphorus nutrients, improving crop stress resistance (drought/heat tolerance). Regulates soil pH.

6.Temperature-Reduction Material: Added to cigarette filters (20–30 mg per stick). Utilizes endothermic decomposition of crystallization water to lower the temperature of the last 1–3 puffs from 70°C to below 30°C, reducing oral burning sensation.

7.Daily Chemicals & Laboratory Applications: Cosmetic pH buffer (safe and non-irritating).Standard buffer in analytical chemistry; reagent for serum potassium assays.

Packing and storage:Highly hygroscopic – requires strict moisture-proof storage; light-sensitive – protection from light is recommended. 25kg PP PE bag

Shelf life: 2 years
