Molecular Formula: H3PO3 Molecular Weight:82.0
CAS No.:13598-36-2 EINECS No.:237-066-7
Properties: white deliquescent crystalline solid. Melting Point is pproximately 74°C (pure compound). Highly soluble in water and alcohols.
Application:
1. Fungicides/Pesticides: Direct Fungicidal/Bacteriostatic Action, phosphite salts themselves exhibit direct inhibitory or lethal effects against certain fungi, oomycetes (e.g., Phytophthora infestans, causing late blight), and bacteria.
Induction of Systemic Plant Resistance: This is one of its most significant agricultural applications. After uptake by plants, phosphites activate the plant's own defense systems, leading to the production of antimicrobial compounds. This enhances the plant's resistance to a wide range of diseases, particularly oomycete diseases and some bacterial diseases.
2.Fertilizer Synergy: Acts as a form of phosphorus fertilizer, supplying essential phosphorus to plants. Although its direct phosphorus content is lower than that of orthophosphate salts, its disease resistance-inducing properties and potential uptake characteristics make it valuable as a functional fertilizer for specific crops (e.g., fruits, vegetables). Potassium phosphite (KH₂PO₃) is a common phosphorous-potassium fertilizer.
3.Chemical Raw Material & Intermediate:
Production of Phosphite Esters: It is the primary raw material for synthesizing various phosphite esters (e.g., triphenyl phosphite, triethyl phosphite, trinonylphenyl phosphite). These phosphite esters are important fine chemical products.(Implied uses of esters: Antioxidants, stabilizers, plasticizers, flame retardants, intermediates for pesticides/pharmaceuticals- as previously described in the context)
4.Water Treatment Agents:
Corrosion Inhibitor: In industrial recirculating cooling water systems, phosphite salts (often blended with other corrosion inhibitors) help reduce corrosion of metal equipment (particularly copper and its alloys) by forming protective films or interfering with the corrosion process.
Scale Inhibitor: They exhibit some inhibitory effect against certain types of scale formation.
Packaging & Storage: 20kg / 25kg PP PE woven bags. Keep in ventilated, dry areas; protect from moisture, high temperatures, and toxic substances.
