Properties:

MgSO₄.7H₂O is white or colorless acicular/oblique columnar crystals, it is soluble in water (71g/100mL at 20°C), slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerol, insoluble in acetone. Density is 1.68 g/mL (25°C),Melting point is 1124°C. Stable below 48.1°C; it effloresces in dry air (loses 1 H₂O molecule).Loses 4 H₂O molecules at 70–80°C. Fully dehydrates to anhydrous MgSO₄ at 200°C. 

Application:

1. Agriculture: High-efficiency magnesium fertilizer: Supplies Mg essential for chlorophyll synthesis.Corrects magnesium deficiency rapidly (e.g., in tomatoes, potatoes, roses). Prevents chlorosis and enhances photosynthesis. Hydroponic nutrient solutions or foliar sprays (superior solubility vs. conventional Mg fertilizers).

2.Industry Textile dyeing: Weighting agent for cotton/silk fabrics. Wastewater treatment: Coagulant for heavy metal precipitation.

3.Flame retardants: Filler in plastic materials.

Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate serves as a versatile cross-sector raw material across agriculture, industry, and food/pharma industries due to its high water solubility, thermal sensitivity, multifunctional chemical properties.

Caution: Do not mix with phosphate fertilizers (generates insoluble precipitates), apply it with 7 days intervals.

Use boron-enriched formulations cautiously when soil available B >2 mg/kg (risk of leaf chlorosis).
