Molecular Formula:KNO3                                                                                       Molecular Weight:101.1

CAS NO.: 7757-79-1                                                                                          EINECS NO.: 231-818-8

Properties: Highly soluble in water, forming a neutral solution (pH ≈ 7.0).  Decomposes at 400°C with oxygen release.

Application:

1. Agricultural field

A. Premium Water Soluble Fertilizer: Specialty fertilizer for chloride-sensitive crops including tobacco, citrus, grapes: prevents quality degradation from chloride ions (leaf scorch, sugar loss).

B. Flower/fruit enhancement formula: during flowering stage: Foliar spray (0.5% solution) boosts fruit-setting rate.

C. Fruit expansion stage: combines with monopotassium phosphate (KH₂PO₄) to increase sweetness.

D. Hydroponic nutrient solution:Provides sulfur-free, chloride-free K/N source, preventing root salt damage (easy EC control).

Agricultural restrictions: Avoid blending with superphosphate (forms hygroscopic calcium nitrate).

2. New Energy & Pharmaceuticals

A. Solar thermal storage material: Formulated with sodium nitrite as molten salt (220–600°C), serving as heat transfer fluid in CSP plants.

B. Dental desensitizer: 5% KNO₃ in toothpaste blocks dental nerve pain transmission (FDA-approved).

C. Laboratory oxidizer: Prepares black powder and copper etching solutions (when mixed with HCl).

3. Innovative Applications:

A. Potassium Nitrate-Phase Change Material (PCM):Used in building energy-saving walls to stabilize indoor temperatures by absorbing/releasing heat during phase transitions.

B. Plant Tissue Culture: Replaces potassium chloride to enhance survival rate of cultured seedlings (chloride-free formula avoids toxicity).

4.Safety & Handling Protocols

Oxidation hazard: GHS classification: Oxidizing solid (Category 3), UN 1486 (transport requires Class 5.1 label).

Prohibited: Mixing with reducers (sulfur, phosphorus, organics – explosion risk).

Packing and storage: 25kg net bag, store at a cool, dry area (RH ≤80%), isolated from flammables.

Shelf life: 3 years
